About Us

I would like to introduce you to Wainui Beach School.
We are a wonderful, exuberant school, with teachers who light up learning for children.

At Wainui Beach School your child would be part of an exciting learning team. We know that we learn best when we are happy and feeling positive about ourselves. As educators at Wainui Beach School your child's happiness is of the utmost importance to us.

We are committed to valuing your child at all levels of their education. We take pride in our high quality teachers. We aim to keep the class numbers down throughout the school. We have high expectations for all children to achieve in Literacy and Numeracy.

We have a behaviour programme that ensures that all children are safe physically and emotionally. We deal with any bullying proactively so that all children can move on safely. Our Values are Respect and Responsibility. These have been chosen by us all and cover all aspects of school life.

27% of our pupils have Maori affiliations. We believe it is important to value all children and have a Maori consultation group running with meetings to which all parents are welcome to attend. All children participate in the Waiata groups and we believe this is a strength of our school. Every second year the children in the senior department spend a night at Te Poho-o-Rawiri or Whangara Marae and the junior school visits during the day. We also visit Te Poho-o-Rawiri Marae at least once a year where we listen to stories about Wainui.

We have a school-wide programme that focuses on the Key Competencies: Managing Self, Participating and Contributing, Relating to Others, Using Language, Symbols and Text and Thinking. Each week teachers look for a child in their class that exemplifies one of these.  We also have a weekly quote based around a Key Competency.

New teachers often comment on the lack of behaviour management they have to put in place in their classes here. We encourage your child in our care to reach their potential as a learner. Our Board of Trustees is proactive in encouraging teachers to set and attain the highest standards of education possible for your child.

We warmly welcome you to come and look around our school. We have an enrolment scheme to manage numbers of pupils and maintain our current school size. Please check that you are in our zone on the map in the school office. I would value the chance to show you the exciting activities happening. Please ring or call in to arrange a time.
